The AE Clarity Study Results; How Does Your Firm Measure Up?

Posted by Susan Patrick

For more than 37 years, hundreds of AE professionals throughout the United States and Canada have participated in one of the largest, most sought-after industry reports, The Deltek Clarity A&E Industry Study. This comprehensive report covers all facets of the operating infrastructure of an AE firm including financial performance, project management, business development and talent management (new in the 37th annual report). With more than 50 key performance indicators (KPIs) identified throughout the report, the Clarity study has become a significant benchmarking tool for the AE industry.

Although there was overwhelming evidence of financial stability in 2016, the battle for talent continues. This year, the “people” aspect went much deeper than just Talent Management. It touched every section of the report and participants in each role cited trends and challenges. From retention to training to the importance of effectively managing client relationships, the lack of qualified talent has been impacting AE firms in significant ways. In this blog, we will review highlights from each section of the 38th AE Clarity Study.

Tomorrow’s Forecast: Solutions with A Chance of Clouds

Posted by Susan Patrick

The continued uptick in companies adopting SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions is driven by many factors including utilizing these solutions to strategically elevate your firm and keep up with the competition. By now most businesses, even if they haven’t made the transition, have considered SaaS/cloud computing. Some haven’t made the switch because they don’t understand what it means or its benefits; they think it is too expensive (even though they haven’t looked at the cost of ownership); they don’t have the internal IT resources to help them weigh the options; or a combination of all four. Let’s walk through each of these obstacles and find out if they are truly valid reasons for bypassing cloud solutions.

5 Reasons to Take Control of Your Project Information

Posted by Susan Patrick

Regardless of your firm size, the ability to manage and share information is essential to the success of a project-oriented business. Speaking with A/E firms across the country, we find that many are working in an environment without a dedicated project information management system. And while firms acknowledge needing a system, finding a way to enhance the collaboration of your team while effectively managing information can prove difficult. In this blog, we look at two project-related issues and how taking a strategic management approach can provide a competitive advantage.

The Inefficiency of Email

If you have a love/hate relationship with email, you are not alone. The overwhelming amount of e-communications sent and received every day becomes a maze of inefficiency. Email represents the highest volume of documents within a firm and must be strategically managed to be effective.

More and more professional services firms are utilizing software to create a centralized hub for project-related information, including emails. When you manage email, and the slew of attachments that come with it, you free up time to focus on your billable work. By centralizing your project emails, your project managers can review the latest conversations at one time – elevating the transparency and accountability of your team.
